Re: Variety of "old" QIIE stamps on eBay sendings

I must admit to searching around in drawers and so forth of late to use up any stamps about to become invalid.

I think though that commemorative and christmas issues can still be used after July 31st

Re: Shorthand on Postcards

An interesting topic and collecting theme. As you say, there must have been some way of knowing that the person receiving the card would understand the message. But I don't know how. Now following you on Twitter

The new generation couldn't understand Postcard.
I suspect there are many younger types who have never sent one to anyone in their lives

Re: Online Vitals

The situation online inevitably reflects that of dealer's fairs stocks - many cards also there for years.

Often eventually to be bundled into conventional auction lots, and the cycle goes on.

Re: Online Vitals

Surprised at the difference between eBay and Delcampe figures - would that be just eBay UK versus total global Delcampe listings?

Re: eBay news

Latest info from November 10th - I don't think this in itself would be reason to leave eBay if otherwise happy with it, there are some advantages as outlined below ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------...

Re: eBay news

The Paypal bit is most certainly incorrect as the "micropayments" option is available, with a fee of 5p plus 5%, which makes low value transactions more viable - the charge for a £1 sale would be 10p for example. However there does not seem to be any similar rate for low value transactions...

Re: Which is the Front, and which is the Back?

" Commonly in France they place the stamp on the picture side"

They certainly did that a lot in the Edwardian era - but I don't think they have in more recent times, I can't recall seeing a "modern" postcard with the stamp on the front?

Re: PC delivered 112 years late! Humbug!

When I used to send out cards on approval I occasionally had the unwanted ones returned in inadequate packaging, which would come open disgorging some or all of the contents into the postal system. This is certainly one way that these "late deliveries" could come about.

Re: To eBay or not to eBay?

That card could conceivably have been found in a 20p box (well, maybe a 50p box)

This is what makes selling on eBay worthwhile, always the chance of a freak result.

Re: To eBay or not to eBay?

eBay are constantly tinkering with the way the site works, and need careful monitoring so as not to be hit by unexpected fees

I think that you can opt out of the auto relist on the advanced selling form?

Re: Why is the Message Forum so quiet?

Yes, no doubt Mike's priority was to get the new look home page up and running, with fine tuning to come.

When logging onto the forum (using Firefox) I get security warnings about an unencrypted connection - could some people be turning back at that point?

Re: Why is the Message Forum so quiet?

I have this forum bookmarked, and so do have a look at it regularly. The best place to promote it would no doubt be in Postcard Monthly magazine - but I can quite see why they might see it as rival media in terms of news and information, and not wish to do so. The hobby seems to have peaked around t...
