Re: Coronavirus and fairs
Every time ELP recommends eBid I check it out with my two regular search terms, with very disappointing results: "Salisbury Plain" - collectables: eBid - 18 hits; eBay - 644 "military Wiltshire" - collectables: eBid - 6 hits; eBay 684. And all the eBid listings are of dross, near...

Re: Coronavirus and fairs
Just bumping this, as it seems probable that fairs won't be resuming this year and probably not until a proven vaccine is available. How are dealers coping without a main source of income? I see even less activity on eBay, spotting a card I would like to buy only once a month or so. How are collecto...

Re: Coronavirus and fairs
It looks as if fairs are unlikely to resume for some time yet (unless they're held outdoors!), perhaps not until well into next year. I wonder how dealers are coping? I've not noticed any increase in listings on eBay for my subject area, indeed there might be fewer than a year ago.* I've been lucky ...

Re: world war 1 postcards
East London Postcards and I always politely disagree about the respective merits of eBay and eBid. I've just looked for "Salisbury Plain" on the latter and got 23 hits; there were 550 on eBay. (Salisbury Plain was, and is, a major military training area, with tens of thousands of soldiers ...

Re: Bloomsbury Book Ephemera & Postcard Fair
Its website says "due to the COVID-19 pandemic our fairs are cancelled until further notice."
I would have been very surprised had it gone ahead, and had it done so many (most?) dealers and customers would have stayed away. And by then public transport services will be reduced.

Coronavirus and fairs
I'm surprised that no-one has raised this yet, but presumably fair organisers are now considering whether to go ahead? Apart from the general consideration of lots of people in a confined space, many collectors and dealers are of a certain age deemed to be at higher risk. And there's considerable ha...

Re: To eBay or not to eBay?
Phew! Just ended on eBay: fierce bidding for a postcard that went for £119 - which meant that someone else was willing to go up to £117. (I dropped out well before then.) It showed a Breguet aircraft that was entered in the Military Aeroplane Competition held near Stonehenge in 1912 to determine a ...

There are four Charles Allan Gilbert postcards (though none featuring "All is Vanity") listed on eBay, with prices ranging from £1.50 to £12.22.

Re: Copies of Postcards
All credit to you, Peter, and you make some good comments. I wonder how many collectors buy a card, stick it in their album and don't bother to look at the detail? I have pored over some of mine with a magnifying glass or scanned them into a simple photo program to look for detail, not least letteri...

Re: Copies of Postcards
I contributed to the original thread, now deleted. The practice annoys me, as some my localised searches on eBay lead to results dominated by modern prints of old postcards. The person that JohnH may have in mind is not as annoying as his Australian counterpart who many times uses the phrases "...

PC delivered 112 years late! Humbug!
Mother, 24, is stunned after Royal Mail delivered a postcard 112 years after it was sent to the previous owner of her house. A silly story of the type that appears in local and national newspapers from time to time). And in some versions of the article Royal Mail gets the blame - as if it had been ...

Re: Post card collection
I'm sure that dealers on this Forum will be able to offer you specific advice, but you could take the cards along to the fair at Filton on June 2 see http://postcard.co.uk/fairs.php. There you'll be able to get opinions and perhaps offers from several dealers. It might help were you to summarise wha...

Re: Copies of Postcards
Very odd. I'm sure that we already had a thread about this, to which I contributed. It referred to a discussion in Picture Postcard Monthly and recently I noted the very high positive feedback for one particular person who enjoys large sales on eBay. Some purchasers, having bought particular cards, ...
