Re: To eBay or not to eBay?
This thread shows that a lot of people scan this forum, in spite of the very low rate of new topics! I am only a buyer, I use most of the sites mentioned as well as sellers' own sites. A couple were new to me (many thanks). I also use ETSY which is good if you collect twee cards. EBAY is a pain with...

Re: Edwardian parking meters??
One might need a bigger house! Another topic I have looked up, with only partial success, is identifying and dating old street lights in postcards, and I came across web sites of people who have quite extensive collections of lights, including complete lamp standards. When I started collecting postc...

Re: Edwardian parking meters??
Thanks! Quoting from the last response by Lesley Ramm "These are street fire alarms and became common in the second half of the 19thC after the Telegraph system was installed." I'll buy this as the answer, though the examples in close up all have a rather different shape at the top. Intere...

Edwardian parking meters??
What are these things by the edge of the road which look like parking meters? They are red, postalheritage.org.uk says "In 1897, to answer the demand for more convenient posting facilities for London squares (around which were the houses of some of London’s more influential residents), small bo...

Re: AS Series
From an ebay sale I see the name Andrew Smith .
As usual, this produces nothing easy to find on the web.

I should have said "posted cards and catalogues".

Re: Postcard copyright... front and back!
The only difference is that (I think for Tuckdb, and certainly for many similar sites including most on Wiki commons) you are supposed to credit them as the source and in principle to enjoin that condition on anyone who copies it from you, whereas if you scan it yourself you don't. I read your post ...

Re: Postcard copyright... front and back!
Can't answer the general points, but Tuckdb has no connection with the Tuck firm so a credit to Tuckdb only applies if you use their scans, as opposed to scanning a card you own yourself for example. Having said this, Tuckdb is great and if only similar sites existed for other publishers- if they do...

AS Series
I have a number of 1910-ish cards, places generally southwest of London, published as AS Series. Is there information about this publisher?
Incidentally, I tried searching the forum, but the search was rejected as these are two common words!

Re: Postcard Archives
https://tuckdb.org/ (also mentioned below) is by far the best online collection of postcards, good size images and a creative commons type license. You would have to search by country name, eg Persia, Iraq or whatever in the Middle East (which here used be called the near east?). It would be great i...

The logo indicates it is a "PFB"card, see

I don't know of any connection between these publishers but the dates of their trading may give a clue. See Misch & Co in

Re: Wrench London Checklist?
Hi Alan
just to mention 2 cards in your 14569 to 14582 range:
14574 Richmond Park
14578 The Museum, Kew Gardens
which are now in London but weren't then!
Someone else listed 14573 London Bridge (which I haven't seen) so maybe this was a mixed bunch.

Re: Van Gink Poultry Postcards
The cards come up from time to time on ebay, or you could buy some original prints, eg from http://www.heatons-of-tisbury.co.uk/poultry5.html Apparently in 1930 C. S. Th. Van Gink was Vice-President of the World’s Poultry Science Association, Voorburg, The Netherlands. He lived until 1968 and is fre...
