Re: BIPEX 2007

I see from the Postcard Fair information that BIPEX 2007 is only running for three days this year (30th August - 1st September) instead of the expected 4 days. Could someone confirm that this is correct, as it has previously been held over 4 days, and I would hate to miss out on a day. Many thanks ...

:( Now that is a shame, why would anyone in their right mind become a spammer? Beats me. Now I can understand why Mike has such tiresome task of weeding them out. Got to be good for the legitimate collectors though, more power to Mike's elbow I say! "John Boy" They are in fact automated &...

Know what you mean. I remember that other old statement "Proof of posting is not proof of delivery" Don't see it about much anymore. These all sound rather like opt out clauses!!!!! If, as you suggest, it is illegal, how on earth are sellers permitted to include it? "John Boy" I...

Re: New Members

:D I see there are some additional of around 120+ awaiting to be "processed" Please dear God, let a few of them be comic postcard collectors!!!!! and looking for exchanges! "John Boy" Sadly 99% of these will merely be potential spammers, and Mike will have to remove them when he...

It's an issue which crops up on the Ebay discussion boards from time to time. Quite a few sellers I know would refund in the circumstances, others would need a certain amount of pressure applying. I can't remember the precise legal position but certainly if an item is not received (or claimed not to...

Which brings to mind the most irritating phrase on Ebay "I cannot be held responsible for items lost in the post" (or similar statements) I understand that this is downright illegal for a business seller (sale of goods act) and extremely questionable for anyone else. In any other area of c...

Sadly, being a well known dealer counts for nothing with the Royal Mail - or do you suspect it was never sent?

The eating question is a tricky one, especially for a dealer who is on their own. When stalling out I try to stick to sandwiches, but can get a bit fed up of bread related products by the end of what can be a 14 hour day - with travelling, and unloading around 2 hours before the fair opens. Haven't ...

[
If I could butt in again - not that I know more than the next person -I think you would need at least 3,000 cards to make it worth your while to attend even a small fair. As to how much to spend, some years a dealer in PPM revealed that he bought at one-third what he expected to get for th...

Hello Tim - I'm not aware of any great demand amongst collectors for these, in the latest IPM catalogue I have to hand (2005) they are valued at £3, a level I suspect they have been at for some time. The subject matter depicted is often a commonly seen view and would not have much appeal for the top...

Fascinating & interesting, it would be nice to be able to get a book - A week in the life of a postcard dealer. Not likely to be a best seller I should imagine, could be a possible project for Picture Postcard Monthly's "Quester" The week in question would need to be chosen carefully,...

Hi - I'm afraid you won't find dealers willing to reveal too much about how they source their cards. My own preferred method is to buy cards in from other dealers, but other possibilities are to buy at auction, or to build up a network of contacts in the general antique trade (though increasingly th...
Thanks for the link Kevin. The prices seem resonable but I imagine the collection has to be rather limited. I suppose I was thinking of a database that anyone could contribute to and search online. Regards - Paul
The idea certainly has possibilities if enough peop...
