Buying Foreign Postcards in Italy

Post by hurley42 »

Hi All

I will be visiting Italy (Milan and Rome) in early October.

Can anyone suggest good postcard outlets (dealers/shops/markets or fairs) for buying foreign cards ?

I am mainly looking for Australian material and Italy could be a good source for 50s vintage cards sent by immigrants 'back home'.

Thanks.

From this year's Picture Postcard Annual I have gleaned that there is a good dealer in Milan:

Paolo Zanetti, via Victor Hugo 3, 20123 Milano Tel.: 0272022741

There is a big fair in Verona in October that may be worth attending - though apparently Foreign material is not abundant or cheap to buy.
~ send it on a Postcard please ~

Hey!
I've just arrived in this forum and this the first topic that i've seen
I'm from Rome, our company is called Millecartoline and we are one the biggest postcards dealers in Italy (and we know very well Paolo Zanetti :) )
You can see our ebay store here :
http://stores.ebay.it/millecartoline
We have an office and if you want you can come here in October, but we have few australian postcards atm.
Regards
Luca

Hi Luca
OK so Rome is another potential source, but your stock is limited.

As my hotel is near the main railway station it looks as if your shop is
over the river about 5-6kms away - near a tramway. Good.

Yes I will visit if I can find the time - what are your opening hours ?
Can you recommend any other dealers who specialise in foreign post cards or is the dealing business solely focussed on local material in Italy ?

Thank you !

Robert

Hi
yes, we are near the centre of rome. There is a big tramway called "8" that run along the centre and around, 1 stop is near our office. We don't have problems of opening hours..just call us some days before your arrive and we'll make an appointment. (If u'll come) Anyway at the moment we don't have enough australian postcards but we have many foreign postcard and postal history..You search something in particular?
I don't know about specific dealers selling foreign postcards with shops ecc..in italy there are many flea markets and meetings where u can find something..Here you can look something http://www.mycityantiquing.org/wiki/Rome
But if you come in october u'll be between the 2 most important postcard meetings:
Riccione 29-31 august
Verona 22-24 november
Beatiful cities, beatiful markets.

Hi Luca

OK many thanks for this extra information !

I am searching for Australian postcards.

So from what you say there is little Australian stock in your shop.

If I have the time I will call before I arrive in Rome as I only have 2 days there.

I will check out the flea markets ! Thanks for the tip.

Cheers

Robert
