I have recently come across 2 postcards that have small windows and coloured sand forms a 'moving picture'. For instance, one shows a man drinking from a bottle and when held upright, the coloured sand that represents the wine, goes down his throat. I have never seen such things before and wonder if anyone can give me any information about them. They are double sided, ie a different picture on each side, and come in a paper envelope on which the address would be written. By the dress of the individuals, I imagine that these date from the turn of the last century.

I have tried to upload pictures but can't for some reason.

Any thoughts?

I have one of these, but without the envelope for posting. I don't know a great deal about these either, except that I believe they are continental and designed for the tourist as a gimmick/novelty item - my one is not so pleasant (on the back) however:

yes, that is very similar - even the subject matter on both sides. It seems these cards have a good side and a more risque side, my other card has the inside of a tavern, the barman filling a glass with 'sand' and on the reverse, 3 men using a fence to relieve themselves. The clothing is slightly different to yours. I'll have to have a go with photobucket & see if I can upload. They probably are foreign as one of the envelopes is market 'Alemania'.

Yes, that works fine Dave - great to see them!

They appear to be in the same style/fashion; I would guess they age from the 1920s/1930s period... not sure of value...

everyone I've shown them to has had a good laugh so they've earned their keep. The e-market will determine the value!
