Van Gink Poultry Postcards

Post by Denis Lyne »

Around 10 years ago I purchased a few sets of Van Gink poultry postcards. These were new and from what I can remember the supplier was in The Netherlands. I just cannot find that supplier or anyone else that now re-prints and/or sells these cards. Does anyone have any clues on these cards? The cards are beautiful and I was looking to buy more sets if possible.

The cards come up from time to time on ebay, or you could buy some original prints, eg from
http://www.heatons-of-tisbury.co.uk/poultry5.html

Apparently in 1930 C. S. Th. Van Gink was Vice-President of the World’s Poultry Science Association, Voorburg, The Netherlands. He lived until 1968
and is frequently mentioned in another forum - http://forum.backyardpoultry.com

This opens up a new world of collecting!

You have got me interested! The reference work is

C S TH Van Ginks Poultry Paintings 1890 1968, World Poultry Science Association, 1992.

Beekbergen, The Netherlands: Dutch Branch of the World's Poultry Science Association, 1992. Pictorial Hardcover. Outstanding poultry illustrations produced between 1913 and 1967 by the revered Dutch artist, journalist, organizer, teacher, breeder and competition judge. (1890-1968). Published on the occasion of the 19th World's Poultry Congress September 20-24, 1992 in Amsterdam. Dutch & English text. Oblong 8vo (8 3/4" x 10 3/4"). white illustrated boards. 136 pages filled with colour paintings, B&W drawings & short history of various / legacy breeds of poultry.

Various secondhand copies appear to be available usually around ninety pounds. But I have wandered off the subject of postcards.

Thanks David

I will visit your suggested websites and check them out. I purchased a full set of the cards from the Netherlands Poultry Assn around 10 years ago and was looking for another new set. My Netherlands contact has not been helpful so I was trying to find another selling outlet.

Cheers

Denis
