Hi,
Just trying to get a date for this card ? Muizenberg, Surf Bathing, South Africa. It is I think around the 1917 date but could be earlier ? Any thoughts ? The surfboards in the picture are very early ones from that time period.
Thanks alexcam

Hello in general I would agree as the 1/2 and 1d postage would date to circa 1915 in the reign of George V

Also it appears there has been surfing at Muizenberg since 1910 - check out this link: http://muizenberg.info/history/muizenbe ... uth-africa where it tells the whole story... certainly puts this postcard in the pre-1st world war period in my opinion.

The University of St Andrews (Scotland) Special Collections have Valentines original pics etc and if you can find they should have the date taken but some are wrong careful! Also database is HUGE now and I find it very unwieldy to use. I might have a go but even I find it hard to use!

I have looked at University website and eventually found some Capetown images, yours is not amongst them so not very helpful.
I have found more useful on London postcards, Valentines like many other postcard publishers were printing large books of views for tourists before picture postcards were even allowed. Like many cards of Tower bridge are from the day of opening (30/6/1894) before picture postcards were allowed, but they show plenty of animation which is why the image was reused so often!

I would like to toss my coin in agreement with Bodvoc. I also think that it is a period between 1915-1920. I would probably lean on to 1917.
