Hello
I'm a new collector looking for postcards issued to promote the theatrical melodramas written by the brothers Frederick and Walter Melville.
Although the cards usually adhere to a standard format (a scene from the play, the play's title and a strapline) some of the earlier cards are drawn rather than photographic and the Melville credit isn't always given.
Here's a list of the plays:
Sinbad 1897
The Great World of London 1898
Dick Whittington 1898
The Worst Woman in London 1899
The World of Sin 1900
In a Woman's Grip 1901
That Wretch of a Woman 1901
Between Two Women 1902
When a Woman is Married 1902
Her Second Time on Earth 1902
Her Forbidden Marriage
A Girl's Cross Roads 1903
The Female Swindler 1903
The Ugliest Woman on Earth 1904
A Disgrace to Her Sex 1904
The Girl Who Lost Her Character 1904
The Beast and the Beauty 1905
The Wheel of Fortune 1905
The Girl Who Took the Wrong Turning 1906
A Soldier's Wedding 1906
Her Road to Ruin 1907
The Girl Who Wrecked His Home 1907
Married to the Wrong Man 1908
The Beggar-Girl's Wedding 1908
The Bad Girl of the Family 1909
The Sins of London 1910
The Shop-Soiled Girl 1910
The Monk and the Woman 1912
The Adventures of the Count of Monte Cristo 1912
One Way of War 1914
The Female Hun 1918
If you have any cards for sale please do offer used or unused cards in any condition. I'm also looking for cards featuring some of the Melville players Hilda Beverley, Olga Audre, Violet Englefield...or any actor/actress cards with a printed Melville credit plus playbills,posters...but really anything Melville related.
If you have any to offer (or similar vintage 'moral panic' theatrical productions of the 'bad girl' or 'white slavery' flavour) I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks
Andrew

I did have a couple, if I can remember where they are! Is the Fred Melville the same Fred J Melville who was a great Philatelic writer etc etc? I think he is.

Hi Andrew,
I have 3 postcards illustrating the play, "Between two women" by Frederick Melville. Two have been written on but one is clean. They are all in quite good condition, although one has a slight dink on the bottom edge. If you are interested in buying them, I will scan them for you. Best regards, Denise.

Hi Andrew,

I collect the same area as you, namely postcards and ephemera related to Walter and Frederick Melville. I am happy to exchange cards if you have duplicates or to sell my spares. It will also be interesting to know what cards you have as I may discover cards that I am not aware of.

Hope that you are interested in exchanging info and perhaps cards

kind regards
