Hi, I have just found this site and can add a card of Stopham Bridge D 11076 with a serrated edge, posted in April 1971. I would guess it was taken rather earlier than that as there is a row of moored boats probably for hire, this was unusual after the 1950's. Regards, Tony.

Hi, I've just acquired two Shoesmith & Etheridge Postcards depicting the Club House at Cooden Beach Golf Club. The first is used and postmarked 1957. It has the Norman Knight with the words Post Card either side of the logo. It is a sort of sepia coloured picture with a white border and has the words GOLF CLUB HOUSE, COODEN BEACH. and the number 11017 to the right of those words.
The second card is unused. The picture is coloured with no border and the words COODEN BEACH, GOLF CLUB HOUSE along the bottom. The other side of the card is marked Shoesmith & Etheridge. Publishers, Hastings, and there is no logo or number on the card. I know that this picture is much older than the other one because of the fact that there has been no extension to the clubhouse which appears in the other picture. The surface of this card when you put it to the light appears to have brush marks across it.
I am not yet a collector of post cards but I must say I am facinated with these two and wonder if anyone can give me some more information on them.
Many thanks
Muppett

Greetings Muppett!

Thanks for posting this information about the two pc's you have just acquired.

I don't have them, so I have added them to my list! For your information, the list is on my website, and contains all of the pc's I know of so far. The company have an interesting history which I am in the midst of writing up, and when complete will also add to the website. (http://www.ronkemp.co.uk)

I assume you live in or around Cooden? Shoesmith and Etheridge as you may know originate from Hastings, where my wife and I were born and lived and worked for many years. As far as I can see, they must have produced in excess of 25,000 different postcards, covering the South of England.

If you want more information on the fascinating hobby of collecting postcards, then suggest you look at the Postcard Traders website, which has plenty of background information including fairs and dealers across the UK. (http://www.postcard.co.uk)

Thanks again!
