Re: Shorthand on Postcards
An interesting topic and collecting theme. As you say, there must have been some way of knowing that the person receiving the card would understand the message. But I don't know how. Now following you on Twitter

Surprised at the difference between eBay and Delcampe figures - would that be just eBay UK versus total global Delcampe listings?

Re: eBay news
The Paypal bit is most certainly incorrect as the "micropayments" option is available, with a fee of 5p plus 5%, which makes low value transactions more viable - the charge for a £1 sale would be 10p for example. However there does not seem to be any similar rate for low value transactions...

" Commonly in France they place the stamp on the picture side"
They certainly did that a lot in the Edwardian era - but I don't think they have in more recent times, I can't recall seeing a "modern" postcard with the stamp on the front?

Re: PC delivered 112 years late! Humbug!
When I used to send out cards on approval I occasionally had the unwanted ones returned in inadequate packaging, which would come open disgorging some or all of the contents into the postal system. This is certainly one way that these "late deliveries" could come about.

Re: Why is the Message Forum so quiet?
I have this forum bookmarked, and so do have a look at it regularly. The best place to promote it would no doubt be in Postcard Monthly magazine - but I can quite see why they might see it as rival media in terms of news and information, and not wish to do so.
