Re: Introduction & Query
Thanks Dave43. Unfortunately it looks like that URL has been transferred to another with a non-postcard related topic. I appreciate your effort on my behalf, though. - Brian

Re: Researching J Beagles & Co
"This old-established company was already well-known for its photographic publishing at the turn of the century. Its postcards can traced back as far as 1903 when premises were occupied at 9 and 10 Little Britain, close to the Post office Headquarters in London, and overlooked St. Paul's Cathed...

Re: Publisher E.R.G. & Co in Blackpool
Well, the following information may only serve to deepen the mystery but, according to Anthony Byatt in "Picture Postcards & their Publishers" (1978), E.R. Green & Co, Blackpool "was also a draper and outfitter, and later expanded to various numbers in Victoria Street, from wh...

Re: Should I break up a booklet of old postcards?
Just back from Quebec City where I sorely wanted to purchase a couple of vertical "strings" of postcards being sold during the city's 400th anniversary. I did not purchase because there was no way to pack them and retain their integrity as units. The reason I bring this up is to illustrate...

Re: Should I break up a booklet of old postcards?
Ditto, what Mooraker said. It is more likely to command a higher price if you are able to sell the booklet intact since it preserves the item's original integrity. This holds true for most collectibles whether toys in their original boxes, blocks of postage stamps, uncut banknote pages, etc.

Re: Acceptable condition
Moonraker, that is an interesting observation about postcard sleeves hiding possible faults. Do you ever run into problems with vendors when removing cards from their sleeves? I can imagine some objecting to finger oils, etc. Or do you bring gloves with you?

Re: Acceptable condition
I've enjoyed the responses to my question and hope others will chime-in. It's difficult for those of us with limited access to shows and fairs to obtain an accurate overview of the general condition of available cards "out there". My main sources these days are Ebay and other online vendor...

Acceptable condition
I'd be interested in learning the general condition/grade of most cards in collections of list members here. Also what grade (however subjective) most expect to find and/or accept when purchasing postcards. I realize there will be different criteria for different types of postcard collections but I ...

Re: cleaning postcards
I cannot help with a name for the product you seek but perhaps another member can? If no product name is forthcoming, may I suggest consulting an archivist at a major public or university library or historical society? The science of preservation has come a long way and I'm fairly certain you will f...

Re: Most appealing subject of postcard collecting
I agree with Colin, a good postcard publisher displays an identifiable signature (not to be confused with company logo or printed name). Can one doubt this when comparing a Vivian Mansell and Hildesheimer card? A Rotary and Valentine & Sons' real photograph? I've often thought an interesting spe...

Re: Most appealing subject of postcard collecting
Yes, I'm here. What drew me to artist signed dog postards? Well, I have four dogs (Cardigan Welsh Corgis), including two U.S. champions. All four live the good life as pets today, but the years of going to dog shows gave me an appreciation for many breeds. The canine-human bond has always fascinated...

Card needed to complete series
I am seeking the Artist Signed "Beagles" postcard by artist Arthur Wardle, published by A. Vivian Mansell & Co., series 1048.
I have had no luck tracking-down this card after months of searching Toronto area shows, on-line dealers & Ebay.
Thank you.
Brian

Introduction & Query
I am new to the Forum and very pleased to have found it. I am a member of the Toronto Post Card Club and collect Gruss Aus, Artist Signed postcards of dogs, other Artist Signed and British Published postcards. I am currently working on assembling a collection of artist signed dog postcards (in serie...
