Re: Why is the Message Forum so quiet?
They probably can't remember their passwords. Seriously though, there are far too many alternatives on the internet where you get a bit more feedback. The whole postcard business is in disarray and nobody has the means to join it up. The PTA exists in name only - there is a postcard traders associat...

Re: Hello From Trainee Dealer
Hi Richard, I haven't any Hykeham cards I'm afraid. Tolworth is a good fair for anything on paper - in case you have stuff unsuitable for the internet - large photographs, ephemera, autographs etc. We get in as dealers by about 7.30 a.m. (maybe a bit earlier), but they let in the early entrants at 8...

Re: Hello From Trainee Dealer
Hi Richard, Croydon's a good place to start. I used to do it every month before I gave up fairs - although I am starting to do them again. It's not a busy fair, but everybody who comes is there to spend money and will want to look at what you've brought. It provides what the internet doesn't - socia...

Re: Hello From Trainee Dealer
Hi Richard, Hope you found Haywards Heath interesting. You'll find that the postcard trade is very much split down the middle regarding the internet and fairs. Half of the dealers at fairs are complete technophobes, some have tried ebay and given up, some don't have a computer at all. Others use the...

Re: Hello From Trainee Dealer
Hi Richard, The fairs circuit could certainly do with some fresh faces as some of them are struggling for dealers and customers, but others, such as Reading and Shepton Mallet are very well attended so it's a mixed picture. The best thing you can do is to find a local fair with at least 20 dealers (...

Re: To eBay or not to eBay?
It would be interesting to hear some results from Delcampe sellers. As an ebay seller I find Delcampes own figures a bit worrying, i.e. only 2% of their auctions result in sales each month. Even with the rubbish people list on ebay, some 25% result in sales. Obviously the free listing on Delcampe is...

Re: from where do most of the valuable postcards come from?
France is the leader in terms of valuable cards e.g Art Nouveau, Glamour, Social History. Germany is probably second with its sheer number of early Chromo lithographed Gruss types. UK is third - topographical, silks and shipping fetching the highest prices. Italy is fourth - railway, advertising and...

Unauthorised copying of images on ebay
There is a seller called 80slondon on ebay who is copying images of postcards and selling reproductions of them quite blatantly. Titles, descriptions and images are being lifted and multiple copies being sold in the form of enlarged photographs, jigsaws, mouse mats, calendars, coasters or place mats...

What do you call someone who collects postcards ?
Anything you like, they'll be so engrossed in what they're doing, they probably won't hear you.

Ebay or fairs? The choice is yours.
The postcard hobby is booming, but attendances are on the decline at almost every fair I go to. The one exception this year was Shepton Mallet, where Barrie Rollinson managed to attract a huge attendance. The Postcard Show has shrunk to 3 days, Bloomsbury has shrunk by a third, Bracknell is up for s...

I've been waiting to see if anybody else was going to give a candid view of the show this year. I feel like I must have been at a different event. The first day was very busy until about 4pm, after that I could have been at any provincial fair. The dealers who went home happy were the ones who had s...

In every filing system I have ever used, in offices, libraries or anywhere else, filing behind a marker is standard. The problem of markers being obscured by the front of boxes can be avoided by not over-filling them. If postcard boxes had been designed with a lip at one end, this would not be an is...
