Re: Another delayed postcard

Another one, obviously put back into the system - note the dealer's annotation next to the postmark. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gqzp2ejlzo

Re: Large postcard collection

Sorry. I was misled by Maskinla12's post of the day before which brought the thread to the top of the list. Sadly, there's not much going on in this forum, even less than a few years ago, and the few recent posts, while worthy enough, are very niche.

Re: Large postcard collection

You're probably wise not to consider selling the cards individually on eBay. Very time consuming scanning and listing them, then dealing with orders. Perhaps you won't know what prices to ask? Many sellers list starting prices that are close to or even in excess of those asked at fairs, others start...

Re: Unnecessarily high postage costs?

On Sunday evening I won a card on eBay for £15.99 plus £1.40 p & p. (I'd hesitated just a little about the price.)Two days ago, I had a message from the vendor - from whom I've brought before - that he'd been unable to get to the post office for a couple of days and that he was posting my card y...

Re: Another delayed postcard

Today's Daily Telegraph has a letter from a Suffolk resident who has received four postcards with Margate 1905 and 1906 postmarks. Two were addressed his house, two to the same addressee in another house in the village that no longer exists.

Re: Postcard Image Theft.

Some years ago I was caught out by the Australian vendor. There are others, who at least make it clear that they're offering copies. Nowadays my regular eBay search terms end with "postcard" which eliminates the copies. And when I don't, eBay somehow gives precedence to the real postcards,...

Unnecessarily high postage costs?

Is it really necessary for vendors to send low and medium value cards by "signed for"? Royal Mail has now reverted ("post Lockdown") to requiring a signature on delivery, which can be inconvenient if I'm out. The sorting-office is a miserable three-mile trek from house with limit...

Re: Variety of "old" QIIE stamps on eBay sendings

An article in today's Metro newspaper tells of an eBay buyer being "stunned" when he received a parcel of sandpaper "plastered with stamps from up to 50 years ago" to make up the £1.25 cost. The purchaser wrongly observes that "stamps without barcodes are no longer valid, so...

Re: Variety of "old" QIIE stamps on eBay sendings

Just received my replacement stamps from Royal Mail: 1p x 35 and 2p x 35, total value £1.05. :D

I still have some 30 or 40 high-value commems dating back over the decades to use on eBay sendings, though I would need to use several first-class stamps of yesteryear to put on a letter today.

Re: Fifty Mysterious Postcards

I have a couple of cards with shorthand messages, another with a message in an archaic form of Welsh and another with "mirror" handwriting, probably the work of a print compositor accustomed to reading beds of type used for printing publications.

Re: Very common cards but ...

It's happened again. Just received two cards whose fronts had been scanned for eBay, but not the backs. One had a contemporary annotation on the back noting that "x" indicated two key personalities at the event (whom I wouldn't have otherwise spotted), the other had a reasonable example of...

Googling will lead to snippets of information and, very happily, an on-line history, c1909, Byegone years of the West of Scotland Convalescent Seaside Homes, Dunoon.

Re: Variety of "old" QIIE stamps on eBay sendings

Y es, Kevin, that is so.

I don't have many commems left and try to stock up with a few higher values, but most of the recent issues seem to be only for letters - and often with pretty terrible designs and subjects.

Variety of "old" QIIE stamps on eBay sendings

As the extended deadline for using old-style QIIE stamps approaches (it's July 31), a noticeable proportion of envelopes contacting my eBay postcard purchases have a fine array of stamps from decades ago. Obviously vendors are using up their stocks (as I am). Today's arrival included two 8½d, two 15...
