Re: Holmfirth "songs" series No 4902/2
I know this is a late reply but I hope it helps. The card(s) you have are from an extensive series of "Song" postcards published by Bamforth & Co of Holmfirth. They issued the series in sets of two, three and four cards. There are also some singles, one card to the complete song. Each ...

Re: Q.E.McCulloch
Hello David, I can remember having some of this series a while ago. Intriguing postcards with what look to be the work of an amateur illustrator and with speech 'bubbles' for the characters that at first sight looked to be drawn onto the card but were in n fact part of the printed illustration. My o...

Re: A question
From the description of the sticker given in the opening post above I think the yyour postcard was sent between members of the Globus (sometimes 'Globe') collectors society. The labels were rectangular (green as far as I can remember) and with a globe logo, the society name in German and space for t...

If you are building a checklist, there was a C A Fielding St Paul's Church, Shadwell on eBay in July, it sold but is still visible in search.

Re: Phantom image
One further thought. If the postcard is photographic, it could be a one off image using masking. There would have been two negatives, one of the soldier, one of the older man. When developing the original print the photographer will have masked out (covered) part of the photo card when exposing it t...

Re: Phantom image
It's difficult to answer without seeing the card but here are some of the possibilities. It could be a 'Hold to Light' postcard, sometimes abbreviated to HTL. They were produced in multiple layers such that when held to a light source the additional image appears. It could be a heat activated card, ...

Re: Roosevelt Bears Postcard
A late reply but I hope it helps. Your postcard is from a nice early American Tuck set of 12. I sold one card a couple of years ago for around £15 (about US$25), I suspect it would fetch more today, bears are always popular. There was no information about the artist as far I can remember. Regarding ...

Re: Newbie
There are some notable exceptions but most Alfred Robert Quinton postcards fetch somewhere around 2.50 to 3.00. If you have lots of them there's a book "QUINTESSENTIAL QUINTON". ARQ cards are much collected but are also in plentiful supply. The C T Howard cards have a lower value. Hope thi...

Re: Raphael Tuck "easter" series 1740
Hello Judy, I can find no reference to series number 1740 . However, I'm wondering if your series may be the same as the Tuck series number 9344, what follows is about 9344. The cards were printed in at least two versions, one with an Easter Greeting overprint to the base of the card, some have Egg-...

Re: Restoration help needed
Hello Thelma, Gosh. Whatever you do regarding restoration I'd advise considerable caution. It's a splendid item and restoration might expose it to risk. I'm sure others here who know more than me might come forward with more detail about restoring it. Paper items, especially those that are mechanica...

Re: Number of Postcards Featuring Gladys Cooper
Hello Ken, I'm really not sure but a Google search for "The Postcard Club of Great Britain" returns details of a "Drene Brennan" as Secretary (aged 80+ two years ago) and also provides postal and telephone contact details. I don't know if they are current but you might like to fo...

Re: Number of Postcards Featuring Gladys Cooper
I very much doubt that you will get a definitive answer but the number is certainly in the thousands. One Gladys Cooper website currently has some 1700+ different postcards displayed and say that they adding more all the time. You can find them here http://www.gladyscooper.com/Postcards/Postcards.ht...

Re: Early aviation postcard
On ebay you can expect it to reach between ten and twenty pounds, it all depends on whether you manage to attract multiple bidders. At a fair and if selling to a dealer you have to bear in mind that they have costs to cover and need to make a profit, so lower prices will prevail. Another option migh...

Re: Early aviation postcard
It's a real pleasure to have helped. For most postcard collectors much of the fun comes from the research and learning processes associated with each card.
Enjoy the postcard and finding out more.
