Re: Lindner Albums

I see what you mean about the prices. A German dealer on eBay is quoting £22.50 for ten sheets, plus a whopping £18.74 for p & P - he's probably involved in eBay's Global Shipping Programme , which is totally unnecessary for most sales. Currently I'm looking for some quite common album binders a...

Re: 2-up, 2-ring albums

If only to breathe some life into the forum ... I managed to buy the very last suitable album from a W H Smith remainder dealer and am keeping my eye on "postcard albums" listings on eBay. These means buying the contents as well. Yesterday I missed out on a perfect album match because of h...

Re: 2-up, 2-ring albums

Ah, thanks for the speedy reply, which you must have posted just as my further Googling turned up Rob Roy! Sadly, there seems to be nothing in their stocks that comes reasonably close to matching what I already have. I also discovered that W H Smith offer a better match, except there's no burgundy, ...

2-up, 2-ring albums

When I started collecting cards 26 years ago, I bought 2-up, 2-ring albums (burgundy colour) from W H Smith's but didn't find these very durable, so switched to something similar (and less expensive) from Stanley Gibbons - who have discontinued them  There used to be an album stockist off the S...

Re: Who is the top postcard AUCTION house???

I usually list stuff on eBay in the winter, but decided to offer a couple of pieces of paper ephemera yesterday. What with the scanning, certainly not worth my while, but they might interest someone. I discovered that a few months ago eBay had introduced a new listing system that was meant to be sim...

Re: Who is the top postcard AUCTION house???

... So once again I turned in desperation to Delcampe - after battling through all their waffle I finally signed up as a seller and listed a single item! Is it just me or is there tumbleweed taking over on that site. I never find anything new, just the same cards year in, year out. I buy on both si...

Re: Postcard Image Theft.

It's getting worse. I make regular eBay searches for specific localities and in some cases the photographic copies exceed the real cards; sometimes there are twice as many copies, especially if the locality included a railway station. The only benefit is that occasionally it makes me aware of a card...

Very common cards but ...

I've been collecting "military Wiltshire" postcards for 26 years and when looking through dealers' stock and eBay listings used to disregard all those countless cards of Stonehenge - until I realised that a very few published in the 1920s showed the wartime airfield and its large bomber ha...

Postcard passion!

Today's Sunday Times has an article, "Wish you were here - to see my postcard passion", claiming that PC collecting "has become the world's second most popular form of collecting after stamps" and quoting Trevor Chinery of Elstob & Elstob, the Yorkshire auctioneers, who says ...

Re: On Indian Postcards

... When postcards are rightly priced, do you think this is done on the basis of factors like postally used/unused, good/action-packed image on the postcard, good condition, etc.? Could you think of any other such factors? What do you seek for in a postcard when you buy for your collection? I've ne...

Re: On Indian Postcards

Hello! Thank you so much for your response! Forgive my delay in getting back to you, I am new to this platform and didn't realise that you had already responded to my query. It's quite interesting how you note that dealers and collectors have specialised knowledge of what's rare and what's not. How...

Re: What is the cost of postcard?

Good Evening, Joseph This is a forum for collectors of mainly old postcards, often produced a hundred years or more ago, though some are interested in acquiring "modern" cards - which can still be some years' old. I'm guessing that you want to mail out postcards to prospective customers? G...

Re: On Indian Postcards

Welcome. I guess it depends on the dealer using their experience of what particular types of card will fetch from their particular customers. They have a good or reasonable idea of which cards are common and which are not. Time was when there was a British printed catalogue of values (there still ma...

Re: Comparitive values of postcards and photos

Though my musings have attracted no replies, I might as well complete this thread by noting the very high prices asked on eBay for "engravings" or "antique photographs" that are merely pages or clippings from a newspaper or magazine such as the Illustrated London News . I've just...

Re: Comparitive values of postcards and photos

Well, I won the album, paying about 55% of what I would have expected to pay for the pics had they been postcards My winning bid was 77p more than the next-highest! (I'd entered some random figures for the pence.) Lucky!
