Re: Making My Own Postcards

There are a few products out there but the quality / suitability is uncertain. Main drawbacks seem to be the thickness of the card, postcards would be at least 350gsm, but few products are this weight. Though you'd probably need a printer with a flat feed (by-passing rollers) to print on anything th...

Posting Pictures

A few people have asked about posting postcard scans with their messages... Although the messageboard does not support direct uploading of images with your post, it's still fairly easy to do this... Open an account with one of the free online image hosting services such as photobucket.com Upload you...

Re: Unauthorised copying of images on ebay

That's true Kevin. Some also seem to be concerned about images on Auctiva etc... the resolution required to produce a reasonable printed copy is far higher than that used for screen presentation. Anybody grabbing your image from an ebay lot would only be ably to produce a slightly fuzzy postcard siz...

Re: Zena Dare

Most of these are very common and sell (if at all !) for about 50p to £1.

Better cards include the opera singers (Melba, Caruso etc.), which sometimes appear in the same collections.

Re: Paper picture postcards?

Undivided back 'postcards' would still have a stamp space...
Real photo postcards with undivided back do turn up occasionally, but it's more likely these are just postcard sized photos, especially if they are on a thin / flimsy (single weight?) paper.

Re: HOW TO REGISTER : Please Read First.

It seems that the SPAMBOTS have returned and are getting through the CAPTCHA settings. So we're getting a few bogus registrations. We've added a few daft questions on the registration form which should help.. If you have any problems registering please contact the webmaster via email. Contact detail...

Re: Vintage and Linen

Linens are very much a US type card rather than UK, so I'm not totally familiar with the dates. People seem to use 'Vintage' for all sorts of ages, I guess it depends how old you are? I would certainly use it for very early cards pre WW1 and certainly pre 1930's. a few cards you've got described as ...

Re: Post card display suggestions requested

If it helps. We supply 'Postcard Mounts' these are made from framers art board with bevel cut aperture, they are designed to fit a postcard into a standard sized 8 x 6 inch or 9 x 7 inch frame. These size frames are widely available. We haven't had these on display for a while so I'd need to check w...

Re: Old Postcard Great Exhibition 1851?????

Sounds like an interesting item but it won't be a postcard as Picture Postcards were only in use in the UK from 1894 onwards.
It will come under the general category of Ephemera (Printed Items). Try the Ephemera Society ...

Re: cleaning postcards

There used to be a product available called 'Fox-It' marketed by Ducal Postcards (Jack & Thelma Duke), who these days specialise in toy soldiers http://www.fort-ducal.co.uk/ . It smelt like a dilute bleach... Chloramine-t was the ingredient. It came in a small brown medicine bottle or as a powde...

Yes, when these have cropped up with us, the collectors have actually been disapointed about the image being incorrect, rather than excited by the printing error.

Re: Are 1920s-1930s cards cheaper?

You're correct the heyday of of topographical and event cards was the 'golden age', but good photographic cards (particularly from smaller photographer/ publishers )from the later periods are often more difficult to find. This is not necessarily reflected in the price though.
