Penkridge Fair

Has anybody been to the Penkridge fair that can recommend it?

I notice it's on this sunday (9th March) and I'm contemplating having a trip out? It would mean roughly a two hour journey each way for us to get there so would need to be worthwhile.

Perforations

At the weekend I came across a booklet of views for Gibraltar I'd bought in an auction job lot, some of the cards were missing from the book presumably having been torn out and posted. What are these tear out cards (ciraca 1920?) worth when compared to normal views without the perforated edge? Is it...

Re: March PPM

Thanks, I do appreciate it (PPM) I've been buying it infrequently for years. Just reluctant to go for a subscription as I don't always have time to read it, when working away and it would be a waste.

Re: Most appealing subject of postcard collecting

1. Building up a reference work of PCs of a particular locality and researching them and their messages. 2. Looking at cards some time after acquisition and spotting new detail, or appreciating something about them because of recently-acquired knowledge. 3. Solving a puzzle about a card or its mess...

Re: Deltiologist (Postcard Collector)

I guess my story is quite typical. I was given a small collection by an elderly relative that contained a few scenes of the local area, plus other places the family had lived at or visited and some family shots I needed to do some research on, by which time I was hooked. I think of myself as a "...

Re: March PPM

THanks for that Kevin. I'll think about a subscription. Probably just a personal weakness but I find that if I buy a magazine from newsagent etc. however infrequent, I'll take the trouble to read it cover to cover. When I've had subscriptions in the past they get overlooked, drop on the doormat and ...

March PPM

Picked up a copy of Postcard Monthly at the weekend. Having not taken it for a while I was quite surprised and think it's improved alot since I last had a copy. I was particularly interested in the articles on Lampeter and Liverpool both of which have connections for me. A shame we can't get at the ...

Re: SUDOCARDS

It's an interesting idea, Though i'm not sure it will take off. My wife likes sudoku, personally I don't have the patience for it. Are they really postcards, with postcard back etc.? I notice we're not supposed to post links anymore on here. I'd had a message deleted a few weeks back and wondered wh...

Be careful! alot of cards get described on ebay as RP's that arent. Usually just good detailed printed cards. I've even seen colour cards described as real photos. Must be difficult learning the hobby, buying online. When you go to fairs as a novice you get chance to view thousands of examples and a...

I see the number of members has been cut from over 200 to 72. Presumably the ones cut out are those who have not posted at any stage. Things have been quiet here too. Is there REALLY nothing happening in the postcard world? Has this place become a graveyard, or are there lots of people on holiday? ...

It won't let me vote now? I guess that the poll is closed after so many months. I naturally look for behind but have got into the habit of asking when I get to the next stand. It caught me out last week, I asked the question as I always do (in front or behind?) got a strange look from the person beh...

Thanks, it's certainly helpful to be able to talk to dealers. I collect a few obscure themes and often need to ask where they might be, besides which I just like to chat and more about the subject. Not all fairs are suitable for this. I agree with the point about displays, some were very attractive ...

Picture Postcard Show

My first visit to Picture Postcard Show this year, which is how I found out about this website and forum. I've been to others including larger Woking fair and Twickenham before but this was a different experience. Didn't find as many cards for my collection as hoped but have found it difficult latel...
