France, early 20th c.

Post by inigo9 »

I wish to identify publisher marks on a number of postcards printed in France ca 1901-18; some comprise initials, others are symbols. Can someone point me to a pertinent resource (handbook, index...?) I am in the U.S., and have found nothing that provides such level of detail -- only generalities. Research for a graduate paper...many thanks

The New York Metropolitan Postcard Club has an A to Z of publishers, each entry has a short company description and, if one exists, a copy of the publishers logo. It's not limited to French publishers but includes some.

Their web site is here
http://www.metropostcard.com/publishersa1.html

They also have a smaller database of publisher initials here
http://www.metropostcard.com/guideinitials.html

I'm not aware of a good source thats specific to French publishers. However, that doesn't mean there isn't one, if such a thing exists I sure someone here will soon come along with details.

If you have images of your publisher logo/marks/initials online it might help to put the address on here and then others can try to help.
