.... enjoying the Olympics so far - well done to all the GB winners and contestants so far!

- are you/have you been watching the Women's Marathon today?

- reminds me of this postcard I bought recently:
Image

It was posted in Wisbech, but I can't read the date - does anyone recognise it, I wonder?
- some clues: Commercial Inn can be seen on the right side and horse/carts of Walter Moore and J Humphreys in background ....... but photographer is Wards Studio Uxbridge......... tram lines noted as well........

It was the George-Commercial Inn in Uxbridge, the 1908 Olympic Marathon passed thru here but this is obvously not it! Perhaps you could copy the card to Uxbridge Local History Society or Archives at Hillingdon, it's nearly 20 years since I left there.

I've had a reply now and confirmation of Uxbridge as the location - to quote:

".... the 1908 Olympic marathon runners came through Uxbridge on their way from Windsor to the White City in July that year. There was great local interest shown, so Uxbridge Athletics club decided to organise a "round- the- town" race for boys under 14. Your card shows the start of this race in the High Street on August Bank Holiday Monday. The winner was awarded a watch and chain. "

Great story - having the same effect today, I believe -
