Birthday postcard with swastika, This card has been posted and date marked 1916, this is a surprise to me due to the symbol and the fact its posted in the middle of ww1? its a card with a bird flying down and left with the swastika in its mouth. Has anybody else come across this??

Swastika has been used in a variety of cultures dating before the rise of Nazi regime in Germany. It can be often found in variuos Indian illustrations as the symbol with the meaning of a sun, and also other regions, such as Baltic pagan cultures. It might well be that the postcard you have contains something from that plot of Swastika use. Nevettheless, I would be very interested to see.

Velvetina is correct, prior to the rise of the Nazis the Swastika was a commonly used 'good luck' symbol.

From the Victorian era through to the 1920's many good luck greeting postcards used the symbol. If you run a Google search for "Swastika postcard" you'll find lots of greeting postcard examples. They tend to have a good following from collectors.
