Looking for Irish clubs

Post by lleonard »

http://torontopostcardclub.com/

to one and all.... I am on the exec of the Toronto Postcard Club and invite all to have a look

In Canada we have a handful of very active post card clubs, and I am wondering what the state of post card collecting is, in the country of Ireland. Was there this past summer and picked up a few cards by Anthony in the Killarney area.

A google search did not produce much help in locating clubs with an internet presence.

Any help would be appreciated...

thanks .. all the best from Canada where right now "Winter is WInter" .....

Good luck with that! I live in Ireland and have become interested in collecting Irish cards, but there's little or nothing out there. No club that I can identify at all in the Republic, and the Northern Ireland Postcard Club are invisible. Such is my level of frustration that I have resorted to sorting out two sites of my own:

https://irishpostcards.wordpress.com/

and a discussion forum: http://irishpostcards.boardhost.com/

The discussion forum is very quiet - much like this one. Is this because postcard collectors are the wrong age profile to handle technology or is it because they like to keep their hobby to themselves?

Well, I am not qualified to comment on the Postcard scene in Ireland, but I do meet buyers from that part of the UK on my travels and they are keen collectors/dealers. They do confirm the lack of opportunities to buy/sell in Ireland; most having to travel out of the country. It is sadly true that there don't appear to be any PTA members over there, and I don't know why that is, as they can do well to advertise themselves here.

I can't speak either for the Northern Ireland Postcard Club: their details and website are listed here: http://postcard.co.uk/clubuk.php and they too have a website http://irishpostcards.co.uk/which appears to be live and has some interesting features on Irish Postcards. Have you made contact with them, I wonder?

As this site aims to be a focus for Postcard Collecting Worldwide, it is sad to say that there are not that many contributors even from the PTA members themselves. This could be for many reasons, but what brings collectors together is the sharing of knowledge. That is one of the big pluses of the Postcard hobby that I enjoy and encourage not just here but anywhere I can.

Long may it continue...

ps - Great websites Gentlemen... well done!
