Miniature Novels Series Christmas lonely heart card

Post by Bexhill-Steve »

I’ve started collecting postcards and particularly like reading some of the personal hand-written stories on the back. I won a lot at a local auction and one postcard has me stumped.

It’s a “Miniature Novels Series” black & white postcard with a printed message on the back where you would normally write reading
“A Maiden, I at Christmas tide,
Am sad to be alone,
If you sir, want a willing bride,
Come make me all your own
From

On the front is a picture of a girl at a desk with a small dog above another printed message reading

A Merry Christmas Sir to you
Though I am lonely here
I’ve heard at Christmas time it’s true
That every thing is dear
Then tell me sir in confidence
That no one else may hear
Should you not have the common sense
To hold me very dear

I’ve scored Google to no avail, ideas anyone ?

Many thanks Steve

Nice - the ones I have seen have also been in black and white & appear to have a serrated edge as though they have come from a booklet.... no idea who the publisher is. I believe they are quite common post cards.

Many post cards sometime reveal some interesting messages; it's always worth looking at the 'other side'

:D
