Post Card Clubs are a good way to find out more about the Post Cards you collect - it's amazing how much knowledge there is in a Club!

Are you in a Post Card Club yet? - if so, how is it going?

Here's a list of UK Clubs/Societies: https://postcard.co.uk/clubuk.php

Post Card Clubs are sadly in decline and need the support of more collectors and interested members...

Your link doesn't work as you have too much text underlined! :D

Incidentally the solitary 'Irish' club seems to be virtually defunct as their blog doesn't appear to have been updated in years. Sad how postcard collectors, and in particular dealers, can't embrace the internet and computer technology properly but seem content to lament the decline of the hobby rather than do something to arrest it. It isn't just an age thing, it's pure laziness - just my opinion which I'm safe in airing here as nobody apart from yourself will reply. :(

I shall, as one of the very, very few "regular" contributors to this forum. I've never been tempted to go to my local club as it's an awkward journey to the other side of town and, TBH, I'm not interested in very many themes outside my own. As for technology, at my age I prefer checking out what's available on eBay to standing on my feet for five hours wading through boxes and rubbing shoulders with other collectors - and, despite having had my three seasonal jabs, I'm still conscious of coughs and sneezes.

I've been a member of the Great War Forum for more than 20 years and and am happy to ask for expert opinion there about military matters (and the occasional message in shorthand or German) relating to my cards, as well as advising on topics on others' cards that I know something about. And occasionally I visit dealers' and auctioneers' websites.

My impression is that good material is not so abundant as it was a few years ago, and some cards that would have sold for £20-25 are attracting little interest.

But we've a long way to go before we reach the depths of stamp-collecting, write I ruefully, having this year completed disposing of my collection for less in real terms than I paid for it in the past century. There appear to be far fewer philatelic fairs than before Lockdown.

Postcards have the advantages of showing far more than stamps, condition is not so important, and postmarks and messages can make for unique purchases.

As always, many thanks for your contributions Moonraker ... it's good to talk.

Post Card Clubs, like any other type of gathering of like-minded people, are useful knowledge and information sharing outlets. The face-to-face interaction cannot be underestimated, just the same as going to a Post Card Fair. And you never know what you might find quite by accident!

Naturally, as you get older the effort becomes more difficult, but certainly rewarding if you make the effort :D

Apologies - I believe the link OK now.

Yes, a pity there isn't much feedback or activity on here ... many people prefer the instantaneousness of Social Media these days I guess and ignore anything 'in depth' or lasting ... but what there is here, goes down well nevertheless, I believe.

Thanks you for your input, always some interesting topics for discussion ... long may it continue :D

I do check in to the forum from time to time - and all contributions are appreciated.

Back in the 1980s - when I lived in Stowmarket, Suffolk - I was a member and regular attendee at four postcard clubs, those at Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester and Chelmsford.

I don't think any of these still exist?
