how do I dispose of my postcards?

Post by russell444 »

I have inheritedd a big collection of old postards between 50 and 100 years old. Two of them are relief cards in mint condition. Some are over 100 years old. Some have been hand coloured. Some have stamps on them. I am not a postcard collector. What is the best way to sell them?
Thanks for any help,

There are many ways to do this - this forum is a good starting point of course - I assume you are in the UK.

On the PTA site there are many UK dealers listed by region, which means you should be able to locate and contact a dealer/dealers near to where you live. Most dealers will be happy give you an idea of value, help you to find an outlet for the collection and/or make an offer directly without any obligation.

Ther are also several auction houses which specialise in Postcards/Paper Collectables who will also give good advice.

Another method would be to take the collection if you can to a postacrd fair near to you and show it to the dealers attending - note: there may be some costs involved here: travel to the fair + entry costs - but it will be enjoyable!

- or you sell them on an on-line auction site one at a time - there are several out there and I won't name them here - but this can be a lengthy process - sometimes it is possible to let someone else sell them for you for a fee ......

PM me if you require further help/advice
~ send it on a Postcard please ~

Thank you very much for your helpful advice. I want to sell them all in one go. I estimate I have about 340 post cards (very rough count) and it would take me forever to sell individually. The two portrait relief cards are of Queen Alexandra and King Edward VII. They have a 3D effect and you can feel the reliefs as you run your fingers over the card. I will see about finding a dealer near Reading, Berks, but perhaps there is a postcard auction coming up in the near future?
