Besley postcards

Post by bugweed »

Hello, just joined this group and would like to know if anyone else is a collector of postcards by cartoonist Rupert Besley? I have quite a lot of his cards already but am wondering how many there are out there...
Would be happy to hear from you!

Hi Bugweed

I can help you with Besley postcards. If you read PPM, you will see my article in the September 2009 issue. I have produced a catalogue of all his postcards. This has taken me over 10 years to compile with the help of Rupert himself. Just yesterday, I received a package from him with 5 new cards - his first for a couple of years. The vast majority were produced by J Arthur Dixon, who went bust and were taken over by John Hinde who basically dropped him after a while. Salmon produced the last few. Since these, it is mainly private commissions from small publishers which Rupert has been involved in. If you contact me, I can provide a copy of my catalogue, but I have to charge £6.50 to cover post and printing costs. There are just short of 400 cards I have listed to date.

Nigel
